Cumin Seed or jeera is a popular spice through out the world. Cumin is usually purchased in the form of whole dried seeds or as ground powder. It is a typical ingredient in many spice blends, such as curry powder. Cumin is a staple spice in many cuisines, especially Mexican, Indian, African, and Asian.
This cumin adds a warm flavour to the dish. In bengali food it is widely used tempering the hot oil. Cumin powder is also a common spice added almost to every curry dish. You have to slightly dry roast the cumin seeds before grinding. This gives a very earthly flavour to the cumin powder.
